To Those We Loved And Lost

Rainy

Written by Lara Grace Sheidy when she was 7 yrs old:

Rainy, you will always be in my heart.  God, please take care of Rainy until I get there. Rainy I know your in a better place - you don't need a halter, fence or stall your running around all over the place (smile).

"Sometimes saving them isn't that they will live an additional 20 years but that they will die with dignity and knowing someone loved them"- Christy Sheidy

Rainy (pictured above) was the first who crossed over at Another Chance.  Others equally loved and missed abut provided with dignity and peace.....

22718 registered belgian mare Marquette Makayla's May foaled 5-24-04 ( 3 yr old) approx 16 hh

We don't know how but this well bred registered Belgian mare wound up going through an auction, contracted strangles and went to a bag of bones and then started to exhibit neurological symptoms.  She almost died several times will never fully recover and since she is still growing and she distributes most of her weight on her front (weak right behind) her front leg is starting to bow.  She will stay with us until she finds a home that will love her for who she is and what she has been through.

Thank you Bayer for donating the marquee treatment thank you Lisa and Jenny for contacting them... Marquette needs high doses of Vitamin E consistantly.  She needs many angels to help offset her costs per month. donations received to bring her to AC4H: Jen, Karen, Lisa, Lisa, Christine, Carol NJ FOB, Lisa, Gloria, Doreen and May

interview with channel 69 news to help Dale and the other intensive care patients - thank you for your help!!

Dale, passed 1-18-06

8 yr old Drum Horse mare.  She currently has a bad sinus infection and her face is very swollen.  She had to have eye surgery 2 years ago for cancer and she continues to be treated for a foot problem that is improving.

Dale was surrendered to Another Chance 4 Horses, so she can get continued care because her owners have reached their financial limits.   She has an appointment tomorrow 1-04-06 with Willow Creek for the vet to treat her.  They will open the infected site by creating a flap and drain the area.  There are looking at a cost of anywhere between $600 and $1000.    If there is any way you can contribute, please help Dale.    Without contributions, care for these horses will not happen.

Without U there can be no RescUe.

Nanna had strangles she appeared to be recovering but an abscess burst internally and there was no treatment options... we lost her.  Slaughter isn't the only thing that takes lives prematurely.

Aged Belgian mare broke to ride and drive was amish owned her entire life.  She left behind her foals and all that she had ever known as a home.  She was vetted/coggins Monday and looked good but Wednesday collapsed and left this world.  Possibly it was too much stress and heartbreak for her to leave all she ever knew behind.

Hafflinger gelding approx 3/4 yr old  - deceased this precious life was taken away way too soon when strangles started to progress into pneumonia which was being treated but he started head pressing which is a sign that it has entered the brain.  There is no treatment when it hits that stage.

Gaelic  Sovereign - TB gelding saved by Terri and Tosha - exhibiting neurological symptoms - neck x-ray inconclusive he is resting and has gained some weight since arrival.  We are hoping for some improvement through quarantine. This gorgeous guy seemed to be doing better but took a turn for the worse he came in neurologic and had contracted strangles the two with all the stress was too much for his body to recover from.

Terri is my Angel!! Click here for more info  Be a Horse Angel

Horatio - 5  yr old Belgian gelding approx 17 hh was going to be shot.... he has some obvious hoof trauma we will do all we can for him... if you would like to help him he could use several angels to help cover his expenses.  It appears as though the bars are overgrown and have caused a flap - this is to be confirmed but we believe that this is what happened and that it has trapped moisture and dirt in the flap and possibly hidden canker.

update - no canker was found however farrier couldn't continue trimming digital x-rays scheduled prognosis, guarded. Digitals showed hope we are going to continue treatment process ... farrier and certified trimmer worked together and support shoes were ready the front right went great when we got to the left front hoof it was discovered and verified with probe and x-ray that there was a hole that led directly to the coffin bone.. there was nothing further we could do to help him. He was humanely euthanized 11 -15-07

Sam - Belgian Gelding approx 16 hands 9 yr old.  He is quiet and easy to handle responds to leg cues is a very gentle giant!  He has a lump on his face right hand side-  it is hard to the touch.  He eats and drinks fine doesn't appear to be in any pain.  I "knocked" on the sinus cavity and sounded hollow throughout which is a good sign.

The vet appointment showed that this poor boy has cancer and that it has softened the bone by invading.  He has airflow out of the right nostril just slightly limited from the tumor and is completely open in the left.  We are looking into options for him currently.

With the results coming back from Dale and with the knowledge that all that was ahead was suffering he passed over 1-19-06

Sponsored by Symon Ginny donated $100.00 Thank you!

Holt's Chance or HC - aged Belgian draft (over 20) with edema purchased by a rescue who was going to euthanize him as they had no room for him. The vet thought he would be ok and should be given another chance to live - we purchased him from the other rescue and he is currently in our care we are waiting for blood test results to come back he has a healthy appetite and is currently doing well.  We will keep you updated. Rescued through the Draft Fund.

update -  blood work showed nothing major wrong- he was anemic (could be due to worms) He was wormed with safeguard and the Edema is gone he is slowly gaining weight.  We are hoping for a full recovery.

Crossed over on 1-25-06

Duchess - Dunn mare broke to ride - history that we know... this poor girl was sold at auction last week with a saddle and two pads hiding her swayback.  She sold originally for over $800.00 because even though she is older she is one broke machine.  She was rejected when the purchaser saw the sway back - she was ran back through the ring brought a bid of $400.00 and they said they would resell her this week.  She has been there all week long waiting for a home - today we successfully outbid the only other people bidding on her - kill buyers to bring her home to safety.  She is lovable, extremely gentle and deserves a chance to live!

4-6-06 was vetted arthritis in back hip front right knee slightly larger some calcification.  Doc had some treatment thoughts she wanted to try but this poor girl had laid down and couldn't get back up the very next day.  We assisted her and she seemed ok- eating, not sick and such a sweet mare!  We kept a close eye on her but unfortunately on Sunday 4-9-06 we had to call out Amy (thank you so much!!!) as Duchess was struggling and couldn't get up even with assistance... she was humanely euthanized.

4-3-06 arrival date

Faith is critical we need your prayers.  Faith was surrendered to AC4H, Inc. because the owners couldn't afford the vet bills and they were afraid they would get into trouble.  By that time Faith arrived she was already in serious trouble she was extremely thin and had terrible diarrhea but she still had fight and determination in her eyes.  The vet ran tests the fecal was inconclusive as it was just water her white blood count wasn't as high as we thought it would be (8.4) her fibrinogen was on the high end (.4) and her protein level low.  We are unsure what is causing her diarrhea. She has been on naxel, has been wormed and started to have some substance to her feces but this morning (Monday 2-13) she couldn't get up.... we are supporting her with a sling and feeding her warm mash, carrots and apples as she likes - please say a prayer for her.

She is so weak that when she lays down she cannot get back up she is being assisted with a sling.

1-13-06 tonight Faith crossed the rainbow bridge she nickered to me I told her how proud of her we were went to get her warm mash, apples and carrots and before I could return she was gone.  I am in total disbelief that she is gone.
