Coconut Martini - One of the first public victims of the Paragallo horses. Our work with the neglected Paragallo horses, the first victims made public through our website, led to their herdmates (around 170 horses) being assisted.   Paragallo has been a fixture in New York racing, starting 4,686 runners and earning $20.6 million in purses. He owns half of Unbridled’s Song, who is one of the most successful sires in thoroughbred racing and commands a $125,000 stud fee.  The New York State Racing and Wagering Board forced Paragallo to surrender his agent’s license shortly after he was arraigned on the charges in April. His daughters Kristen and Jennifer gave up their owners’ licenses. There is no place in thoroughbred or harness track racing in New York for anyone involved in the callous neglect or mistreatment of horses,” said John D. Sabini, the Racing and Wagering Board chairman.

The Exceller Fund requested this, and thanks to Adam Coglianese for catching her only win. . She's well on her way to recovery and a great second career all horses deserve. HVK Radiant Flaire ... A modern day Black Beauty!   From Champion to Killpen

He won the very first Breeder's sweepstakes as a weanling colt and followed up by being named World Faturity yearling colt Champion.  He comes from a distinguised family family that includes his sire Noble Flaire, Grand National Champion HVK Man About town and three time World Champion HVK Vibrance.  His dam, HVK Radient, is by the late great Wham Bam Bommand.  He was at the prestigious Tatersalls Sales Arena in Lexington, KY.  Somehow retaining his papers passing from hand to hand HVK Radiant Flaire would up at an Amish driving sale and was purchased by a kill buyer to be slaughtered for human comsumption.  While in the kill pen his gorgeous long flowing tail was chopped off to be sold.  The individual who chopped the tail off stated "It doesn't matter he is going to kill anyway"!

Starmaker's Serenade -  - A big thank you out to the folks of trot.org,  Julie Andrew and John Holland (new owner) for helping this pretty girl out of the kill pen.

Starmaker's Serenade and her blood lines were literally a "who's who" of the Saddlebred registry 2000- UPHA 14 Spring Premiere, she won a first, two seconds and a third.  Mentioned in Saddle and Bridle magazine in September 2000 edition Rescued from slaughter 2005.

Hi Christy. Why the picture has that green tinge-don't know-I
cannot correct it. Anyhow- we picked up Fawkes in March 2008. Within a
week we took him fox hunting just to see if he had any "issues". Had a
wonderful day and came in early because he still needed some weight
and conditioning. This photo was taken in May-two months after we
brought him home. It was our club's Hunter Pace-we ended up leading
this kid and her stinky pony around the two mile course twice-over
hill and dale, thru creeks at the trot and canter. Fawkes never put a
foot wrong. During the summer he placed fifth in Equitation at his
first show (beating my instructor!) even though we were still trying
to get that consistant right lead. In November my young friend lost
her 27 year old quarter horse who she had ridden exclusively since she
was twelve. This created a crisis of confidence for her and I wondered
if she would ever hunt again. She is now hunting Fawkes and having a
blast. He is a very uncomplicated ride, honest, steady, safe and has an
incredible canter. Although I don't know if he ever jumped before we
got him, he jumps the logs we encounter quietly and comfortably. A
couple of weeks ago we hunted side by side with a TB for sale for
$28,000. The difference between Fawkes and that horse? About $27,300.
And that horse refused to cross the creek and log.  He gets better
and better. we will never get a horse anywhere but from AC4H-we now
have three! Thanks for making this wonderful horse available. And all
the others. Lori
Harry’s Story

Thank you Christy and Rick, your dedication to save horses is wonderful, and because of that we have Harry and BO.

Thank you Jamie Gilbert for helping us to get Harry and BO, and thank you for taking care of Harry after his surgery.

Thank you Tim Phillips for making Harry’s special shoe.

Thank you Dr. Ross, Peter Blauner, and the staff that worked with Harry.

In February of 2008 we adopted a Horse named Zipidy-Do-Da from Another Chance 4 Horses in Bernville. We did change his name to Harry, and it suits him well! He is a very friendly horse, and curious. He does not miss a trick!

We boarded Harry while we had a barn put up on our property. We went to see him every day. On one of the visits in March we were told Harry had a thrush infection in is right foot. They treated him with medicine and the infection was gone. Within one month Harry had another infection, again in his right foot. He received medicine and we had to soak his foot each day for almost a month. The infection was gone and Harry seemed fine.

On our visit in April we were told he was limping at times, and had another infection, again it was the right foot. We realized some thing was not right, and wanted to get x-rays done to see what was going on with Harry.

On June 19, Peter Blauner V.M.D. evaluated Harry and took x-rays. The results were not good. The x-ray showed that Harry was missing part of his bone. He needed a special shoe made to keep his balance.

Tim Phillips, Farrier, made Harry’s shoe. At first Harry did not like it, but he got used to it.

Harry had some other problems, and his X-rays were sent to NEW BOLTON CENTER, UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA. Within a week I received a call from Dr. Ross, who looked at Harry’s x-ray. Harry had a large tumor in the hoof wall. Harry needed surgery.

The tumor was there for about 2-3 years, and played a part of the thrush infections and missing bone. It also seemed to bother him at times, with his walking. Surgery was scheduled for July 23. He had to be there the day before.

The surgery went well, and Harry was fine!  They made a hole in the hoof wall and pulled the tumor out. Then they put a patch over the opening until it falls out. Harry had to stay in his stall. We were allowed to take him out for about 15 minutes to graze. We had to clean Harry’s foot just about every day and re-bandage the foot.

Finally in August the patch fell off. Little by little Harry was out by himself for short periods with supervision. As Harry was getting better, we decided to get him a friend. We went to Another Chance 4 Horses and adopted BO.

Harry was finally better by the beginning of October. He was checked and found to be a sound horse! This is the news we have been waiting for! Harry was going to be fine! It was a long haul with this surgery, but well worth it!

As for Harry and BO? They are inseparable!

Just an added note, Harry is healthy, happy, and doing fine!

 `Some notes from our friends...

Willie aka Joey goes home.

Wanted to share a happy ending with you guys..... the "official story" will be out in detail for cross posting and press release after Christine gets home and is able to put it into an email :>) but here is a sneak peak...

About 60 days ago in the same kill pen was a paint gelding that we fundraised for he had one blue eye and one brown eye, high white socks and was a little older -had an obvious larger knee from calcification but came right to me out of the group of horses and had my heart immediately!  With the help of the FOB's "Willie Nelson" (Doc Holt named him) was at AC4H safe and awaiting another chance at life.  I don't know if you guys read the story of Brittany and Nicole who came from Long Island to PA to save a horse from slaughter??  If not I will post it here for you.  Turns out Nicole recognized Willie as Joey from a lesson stable in LI she informed us he had even competed in the special olypics.  Around the same time Christine called in tears saying that she knew the horse Willie Nelson as Joey and sent us to a website to see his picture at first we thought she had the wrong horse but she identified the brand that wasn't visable on the pictures and Nicole said she knew Christine (small world) and it was definately Joey!  Christine had told the lesson barn that she wanted him if they ever wanted to sell him but they didn't call her... the next thing she knew she saw his picture on the AC4H website as saved from slaughter ... she submitted her application and today tears of joy streamed down her face when they were reunited.  Willie aka Joey immediately started rubbing his head on her as if to say I remember you and you didn't forget about me!  The pictures below are from this morning ...

A winner!!!  She won green reserve champion and pleasure.

Noel and Destiny (a pony rescued from a kill buyer in PA) winning blue ribbons- great job guys!!

Me with my new family!!

Cha-Cha Black and White mare aprox 3 yrs old and 14 hands she is gentle, absolutely gorgeous, loads, ties, stands to be tacked and mounted - super nice!  She is sound at a walk, at a trot she has a "hitch" which has been diagnosed as hock issues OCD bilateral in the left rear as seen in the video...
I thought you might like another success story to add to your list - it really is proof that these are great, deserving horses and ponies you all are helping to place! Here is the buckskin pony we bought off the broker-owned page just a few months ago. She carried my 4 year old daughter in her first show and is a much-loved lesson pony. People at the show kept coming up to us and commenting on what a beautiful pony we had. She sure does clean up well - she looked like a million dollars! I will be keeping my eyes on your web pages for another golden find like her for more of my lesson kids to enjoy!  Thank you again for all you do.  Lillian Halvorsen

Christy,
Bella (Gold Treasure) did her first show this weekend.  Just wanted to pass on a cute picture of her with her owner Lauren.

Thank you, Heather

Hey Christy,

Went out riding today and Cody was a dream !!!!!  I don't know what else I can say about him that you don't already know . Here are some pics we took today I hope you enjoy them and I hope everyone can see that he is loved !!!

have a good day   Jody and Cody

Hi, Christy - I wanted to take a minute to send you some pictures of "Charlie Horse," the Belgian you found for me about two years ago at the auction.  You probably remember that you found Charlie for me at the auction after things did not work out well with Sugar, the Belgian mare I bought from North Dakota.  Charlie was definitely a diamond in the rough.  I remember you said you were bidding against the "meat man" that day at the auction and I am so glad you won. With a little TLC, a little patience and a lot of food and exercise, Charlie has turned into a wonderful, wonderful horse.  He's a great trail horse and a safe ride for anyone... kids, adults, beginners.. you name it. He is as bomb-proof as they come and he's even helped a few "beginner" trail horses learn the ropes out in Patapsco State Park.  Everyone loves Charlie and I am so glad you found him for me.  I think Charlie is the happiest of all and definitely the most grateful - he has a safe, happy forever home and miles of trails to look forward to, thanks to you.
